When people came to believe in Jesus as the Son of the eternal God, as their Savior from sin and death, and as the Lord of their lives, they were baptized. They went under the waters, symbolically dying to the old life and rising to the new. Not surprisingly, some of them even took new names after baptism. The old life yielded to new life in Christ Jesus. In baptism, they were marked with the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They were taken into the LORD I AM and marked as His own forever. I invite you to take the name of the LORD your God into your heart and soul. To receive the new names from God that Isaiah has brought to us, we first must receive the name of Jesus as our Savior and Lord. We call upon Him. If you have never looked to Jesus in this way, I urge you to do so now. Call upon His name. Invite Jesus to name you as His own and to place all the saving power of His name within you. Praise Him for all He has done to redeem us. Bless him for His mighty work of salvation. This calling on the name of Jesus is a continuing dynamic of our life in Christ. As we do so, whether for the first time or as part of the daily prayer of decades, He will reply. Moment by moment, on into eternity, He responds to those who call upon Him.
