The organization is called “The Reformation Project.” The stated purpose is to “re-educate the church concerning gay activity” by spreading the idea in conservative American churches over the next decade that the Bible “allows for monogamous homosexual activity.”
The man behind the effort is 23 year old Matthew Vines who self-identifies as same-sex attracted. The method is training hand-picked “Reformers” to be the voice of advocacy on this issue for the long term.
“The goal of the conference was to be training Christians who are in churches that don’t currently support LGBT people and to give them the biblical tools and knowledge that they need to go back to their churches and have constructive, persuasive conversations with other believers on these issues,” Vines told CP.
Offering up a decidedly dis-integrated view of faith and life, Vines believes that Christians can believe in the full authority and inspiration of the Bible and at the same time support same-sex relationships. He hopes to convince others of his way of thinking.
