RICHMOND, Va. – On the day after he was elected moderator of the 216th General Assembly, Rick Ufford-Chase announced Sunday that he had selected an associate pastor from Louisiana as his vice moderator.

The person who will "partner with me in representing" the church, Ufford Chase said, is the Rev. "Jean Marie Peacock, the associate pastor of Lakeview Presbyterian Church and a commissioner from the Presbytery of Southern Louisiana."

Lakeview Presbyterian Church is located in New Orleans.

Ufford-Chase said she is involved in "youth programs, campus ministry, evangelism outreach, family ministries and Christian education."

Peacock, in a brief acceptance speech, told commissioners that, "I look forward to working with you, hearing your concerns and vision for the church as we move forward in evangelism, our commitment to young adults, campus ministry and the poorest of the poor in this world."

"We need to take seriously the challenge of ministry in today's context," she said.

Ufford-Chase said Peacock has "a heart for pastoral ministry and small church development, or what we call church transformation."

"She is committed, as I am, to thoughtful, respectful dialogue that builds bridges across areas of disagreement."

Peacock has a Master of Divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and a masters degree in social work from Arizona State University. She spent seven years doing mission work in the PC(USA), first at Stony Point Conference Center in New York and later in border ministry, which is where she met Ufford-Chase.
