The Rev. O. Benjamin Sparks, Interim Editor
The Presbyterian Outlook
2112 Laburnum Avenue, Suite 109
Richmond, Virginia 23227

Dear Ben:
Thank you for your letter of April 8, 2004. I welcome the assurance that you are researching the matter that I brought to your attention.

I trust that your research will focus on fact rather than any belief or opinion that may have been or is currently entertained by you and/or Mr. Sniffen. Your publication has a right to voice any belief or opinion that you choose to promote, including your stated belief about what our articles on Dr. Rhee's activities "meant to portray." But, lacking evidence to sustain your belief, you may not proffer these opinions as statements of fact.

Neither you nor Mr. Sniffen has any knowledge regarding the motives and intentions of our writers. Further, Mr. Sniffen never contacted me or any member of my staff regarding our 1989 article, and he could not have known what due diligence and fact checking occurred during its composition.

When you purport to publish statements of fact regarding our work, it is important that you state what we said, not what you think we meant by what we said.

I look forward to The Presbyterian Outlook's retraction of false statements regarding the referenced article and to an apology to your colleagues in ministry.

Sincerely,
Parker T. Williamson
Editor and Chief Executive Officer
