Methodist evangelical group to provide legal aid for pastors United Methodist News Service Monday, September 6, 1999 An evangelical group is establishing a Legal Assistance Fund to assist pastors and churches struggling with "unfairness and injustice in the United Methodist system." The action was taken by the board of Good News, an unofficial United Methodist caucus, during its recent board meeting at its offices in Wilmore, Ky. The fund will be supervised by the board's executive committee, headed by the Rev. Phil Granger, senior pastor of College Avenue United Methodist Church in Muncie, Ind. Granger was elected to a second one-year term as chairman of the board during the meeting. The Legal Assistance Fund "reflects the board's increasing concern about the diminution of fairness and due process on the part of some bishops and cabinets," according to a release issued after the board meeting. |
