'Touched by an Angel' episode to focus on Sudan The Layman Online Monday, September 13, 1999 The Institute of Religion and Democracy (IRD) is using the season premiere of "Touched by an Angel" as a springboard to help people understand what's happening in Sudan. The Sept. 26 TV episode, titled "For Such a Time as This," will focus on Sudan. Anticipating a large audience for the popular TV show with its Christian orientation, IRD has already set up a web site "to communicate to people across America about the genocide, starvation, slavery and persecution going on in the Sudan." The purpose of the web site is to teach people what they can do to join the fight to end genocide and persecution in Sudan. "Our web site will feature facts about Sudan, ongoing efforts to end the genocide, tools and resources you can use to be an angel in Sudan, and arts and culture, such as Dinka hymns, poems about Sudan, photos and art work, and even recipes. There will be a downloadable bulletin insert for your church, and lots of links," the IRD said in a news release. The IRD also suggested that home groups, churches, youth groups and families gather to watch the TV program. |
