LONG BEACH, Calif. -- In one of the few unanimous votes taken by the Theological Issues Committee, members voted 58-0 to approve Overture 00-51 to study Biblical, confessional and theological statements of the Presbyterian Church (USA) regarding eschatology, the millennium, the second coming of Christ and the judgment.

The approval came with one amendment. Instead of the study being done by a special committee, the recommendation will be for the study to be referred to the Office of Theology and Worship.

The overture advocate said it had been 24 years since the church had spoken on the issue.

The recommendation will be voted on by the full General Assembly later this week.
