NNPCW quickly rewrites communication to commissioners The Layman Online Wednesday, June 23, 1999 FORT WORTH - Lobbying commissioners to vote in favor of a recommendation to double their budget, the National Network of Presbyterian College Women put a handout in their mailboxes, only to replace them almost immediately with a revised version. The Presbyterian Forum reports: "Comparisons of the two drafts revealed that several changes had been made. The most interesting change was something that was removed. An entire paragraph that would have supported denominational standards was notably absent: 'NNPCW, as a program of the General Assembly Council of the PC(USA), does not endorse homosexuality or premarital sex. NNPCW mirrors the diversity of viewpoints on many issues that are present in the larger church.' (emphasis in original)." To read the Forum's accounts, and to compare the two documents, click here. |
