Monday, October 4,1999
Princeton Theological Seminary is now the home of the Hispanic Theological Initiative, which it describes as "an innovative program created to respond to the needs of religious leader and pastors in Latino/a communities across the United States." Formerly located at Emory University in Atlanta, the initiative is funded by a $3.3 million dollar grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts.

In announcing the initiative the seminary said the program "seeks to increase the availability and quality of Latino/a candidates for faculty and administrative appointments in seminaries, schools of theology, and universities through masters-, doctoral-, and postdoctoral-level grants and awards and through mentoring and workshops. Program funds are also designated for community building and networking opportunities for all HTI awardees to interact with other Latino/a theological students, as well as Latino/a scholars across the country."

Zaida Maldonado Perez, most recently assistant professor of historical theology at the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico, has been appointed program director.
