Moderator's presbytery votes against Amendment A The Layman Online Wednesday, November 14, 2001 San Gabriel Presbytery in California, the home presbytery of General Assembly Moderator Jack B. Rogers, has voted nearly 2-1 against Amendment A. With a two-vote margin in January, Rogers' presbytery elected him to serve as a commissioner to the 213th General Assembly and endorsed him as a candidate for moderator. The endorsement of the home presbytery is required before a Presbyterian can become a candidate for moderator. San Gabriel's vote Nov. 13 against Amendment A was 181-97. That ran the national tally to 15 presbyteries against Amendment A and two in favor. Also voting against A recently – 52-16 – was the Presbytery of Western Kentucky. Thus, Western Kentucky became the second "no" presbytery that had voted in 1997 against what was then known as Amendment B. With the approval of more than 55 percent of the presbyteries, Amendment B became G-6.0106b, the "fidelity/chastity" clause in the Book of Order. Two other presbyteries also gave Amendment A resounding "no" votes during recent meetings: Washington (82-27) Charleston-Atlantic (93-22).
