Halloween, an event that has questionable merit as a Christian observance, was celebrated at the work stations and in a "haunted hall" at the Presbyterian Center in Louisville, Ky., the headquarters of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

According to CenterNet, the Web site for the PCUSA staff, trick-or-treating took place throughout the building, which houses 600 workers, from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 31. There was also a costume contest at noon and the staff set up the haunted hall on the second floor of the building for afternoon scares.

CenterNet posted photographs of several staff members in their getups, including Jerry Van Marter, director of the Presbyterian News Service, who became a pale-faced wizard.

"A standing ovation goes out to Human Resources, the National Staff Association and OIS for providing lots of fun and frights last Thursday, Halloween," said CenterNet on Nov. 5.
