Smith named to Women's Ministries post By Jerry L. Van Marter Presbyterian News Service Wednesday, November 29, 2000 Mary Elva Smith Mary Elva Smith, who has served since 1995 as interim general presbyter for San Diego Presbytery, has been named associate director for the Women's Ministries Program Area of the National Ministries Division in Louisville. She begins her new work Feb. 19, 2001. Smith recently completed a six-year stint on the General Assembly Council. She has extensive experience in the areas of Christian education, transitional ministry and Presbyterian Church (USA) governance and procedures. She succeeds the Rev. Barbara Dua, who resigned a little over a year ago.
