CHICAGO (PLC) – Former General Assembly Moderator Robert Bohl told a gathering of Amendment A supporters that the “Covenant Network” they have formed “is not an organization.”

There are far too many special interest groups in the Presbyterian Church, said Bohl. “We are not an organization,” he repeated.” Bohl said that the group was “just the beginning of an evolving network that we hope to be larger and larger.” He suggested that there are “hundreds, indeed thousands” of persons who share the network’s “commonality about Amendment A.”

“It is obvious that there will need to be a budget,” said Bohl as he announced a planned $200,000 spending budget. Bohl said that he and Buchanan have already raised “about $105,000.”

During the group’s organizational meeting Bohl and Buchanan presented Pamela Byers, the Covenant Network’s new executive director. Byers, an elder and member of Old First Church in San Francisco, was associate publisher of religious books for HarperCollins before joining the Covenant Network. Office space for the Covenant Network is being donated by San Francisco’s Calvary Church, whose pastor, Laird Stuart, chaired the General Assembly’s Book of Order Committee, which produced Amendment A.
