CLEVELAND (PNS) – Former General Assembly Moderator Joan SalmonCampbell has renounced the jurisdiction of the Presbyterian Church (USA). SalmonCampbell’s renunciation of her Presbyterian ordination came after she started her own church in the neighborhood of the Presbyterian congregation, St. Marks, that she was serving in Cleveland, Ohio. Several members of St. Marks have defected to join her new church, which she started without the consent of Western Reserve Presbytery. The renunciation means that SalmonCampbell, who was General Assembly moderator in 1989, is no longer a Presbyterian minister.
