Ghost and goddess

The sale of Georgia O’Keeffe’s New Mexico homesite appears near settlement on terms that satisfy both the property interests of Ghost Ranch Conference Center and the cultural interests of those who wish to memorialize an exceptionally gifted artist. We congratulate Presbyterian negotiators, both on-stage and behind the scenes, who are bringing this matter to a mutually beneficial conclusion.

Assuming that Ghost Ranch property has been protected, we hope denominational leaders will attend to its use. When the Presbyterian Church (USA) acquired this 21,000 acre conference center, it dedicated the property to the glory of God and the lordship of Jesus Christ. How does a conference scheduled for September 30-October 4, titled, “The Goddess Returns to Ghost Ranch” fulfill that commitment? A flyer describes the program: “The Anasazi Ancient Mothers are calling YOU to celebrate the sacred feminine Goddess in the Land of Enchantment … Honor the Goddess within each woman. Tell YOUR Herstory with art, voice, dance, ritual …”

We are pleased that leaders of the Presbyterian Church (USA) have been fiduciaries of the land. We pray that they will act as fiduciaries of the faith as well.
