Church Growth Strategy report defines evangelism

LOUISVILLE – The General Assembly Council approved the Church Growth Strategy Team Report “A Vision for Church Growth in the Presbyterian Church (USA),” which defines evangelism as being “called to listen to and learn from the stories of others as we discover together where they connect with God’s story.”

The report was approved without the “attachments” that will provide details, suggestions and strategies on its implementation.

The GAC also approved continuing the team for two more years at a cost of $25,000 per year, to “support and monitor the implementation of the report in a manner ensuring some continuity from the original team.”

The report calls on every Presbyterian congregation to be a mission outpost, carry out the Great Commission to make disciples within its neighborhood as well as the world, and prayerfully design a mission plan to be in ministry with those who are hurting, in need, and without Christ.

The only amendment to the report was to add sexism to racism as a concern of the church.

The report recommends against creating a separate PCUSA division on evangelism or creating a decade of evangelism. (PLC)
