Spiritual Theology is a book we’ve needed for a long time. Simon Chan has done a massive amount of research yet worked with it so thoroughly that he writes in a lucid, accessible style. Intuitively, we know that the excellencies of orthodox theology should lead to robust worship. In the same way, we know that spiritual “practices” deepen as they are grounded in the truth of who God is. But rarely do we see these partnerships in one work. Chan, however, weaves together Trinitarian theology and spiritual exercises with integrity and beauty. He knows his stuff. This is a book to nurture the soul as it unites the concerns of the head and the heart.
