The Women’s Ministry program area of the Presbyterian Church (USA) is seeking nominations for its annual Women of Faith Awards that will be presented during the 2000 General Assembly in California.

Last year’s awards, presented to two lesbian activists and a leader in the ReImagining God movement, sparked a firestorm of criticism. The General Assembly Council recently decided to initiate a review process before allowing awards to be finalized. (See story

The theme for the 2000 awards is “On Behalf of Women: Living Jubilee Justice.” That theme was chosen to relate to a movement promoted by the World Council of Churches to cancel international debts of some nations. The PCUSA has endorsed the movement.

Awards will recognize women working for economic justice, environmental justice, land issues and global issues, and those working in the judicial system for restorative justice.

Nominations must be made on an official form that may be obtained by calling (502) 569-5362.
