One-week tally: Presbyterians in 31 states back Confessing Church The Presbyterian Layman Volume 34, Number 3 Posted April 20, 2001 Scores of people from congregations in 31 states, representing a combined membership exceeding 75,000, have endorsed the Confessing Church Movement in the week since it first was announced. Those people, including 38 pastors, backed the movement in the timeframe from March 29, when the Presbyterian Lay Committee announced its support for churches proclaiming confessional statements, to April 5. The numbers reflect congregational statistics for 1999, the most recent year for which statistics are available, and were compiled from Presbyterian Church (USA) Research Services resources.
