Euro not enough
France’s cash-strapped Roman Catholic Church is urging parishioners to cough up two of the new euros, not one, in collection plates.

The euro now is the standard for the 11 European Union countries. It is similar to France’s 10-franc coin, but the value of the 10-franc, the most common contribution by French Catholics, is about 30 percent greater than the value of the euro.

To avoid confusion and the loss of revenue, Catholic leaders have begun a campaign urging churchgoers to give two euros instead of one.

Revenues, as well as church attendance, have slumped.
