Doug Pratt, senior minister of the Pittsburgh area’s largest and fastest-growing Presbyterian congregation, and Parker T. Williamson, editor in chief of The Layman, will be keynote speakers during the Presbyterian Lay Committee’s annual Faith and Life Conference at Grove City College in Grove City, Pa., June 6-8.

Pratt will be the preacher and Williamson will be the Bible teacher for the conference, the theme for which is “Confessing our Faith.” The conference will include a regional seminar on the Confessing Church Movement within the Presbyterian Church (USA), an advance report on the denomination’s 2002 General Assembly and a state-of-the-PCUSA assessment.

There will also be workshops on:
  • “Confessing Christ and Responsible Stewardship,” conducted by Peggy Hedden of Columbus, Ohio, an attorney and the vice chair of the Presbyterian Lay Committee.
  • “Resources for Confessing Christians,” conducted by Craig Kibler, director of publications for the Presbyterian Lay Committee.
  • “Building Networks among Confessing Presbyterians,” conducted by Steve Strickler, director of church relations for the Presbyterian Lay Committee.
  • “Training and Electing Confessing Elders and Deacons,” conducted by John H. Adams, editor of The Layman.
A dynamic preacher whose sermons are grounded in Scripture and focused on Christ, Pratt has been pastor of Memorial Park Community Presbyterian Church in Allison Park, Pa., a suburb of Pittsburgh, since 1990. Under his leadership, the congregation has grown from 1,000 to 1,700 members.

Pratt has also been a national leader in the Confessing Church Movement within the Presbyterian Church (USA).

He is a native of Western Pennsylvania and has degrees from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Boston, Mass., and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif.

Williamson, who became editor of The Layman in 1989, is a journalist and author of two books: Standing Firm: Reclaiming Christian Faith in Times of Controversy and Essays from Zimbabwe. He has also written for numerous other religion magazines and journals.
