LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After its last major curriculum, Covenant People, drowned in more than $1 million in red ink during 2001, the General Assembly Council of the Presbyterian Church (USA) has decided to try again.

It is proposing a new curriculum, modified for different age groups, titled We Believe: God’s Word for God’s People.

John Detterick, executive director of the General Assembly, has prepared a budget proposal that recommends spending $750,000 for the curriculum in the 2002-03 budget years.

Covenant People was a highly promoted curriculum when it was introduced in 2000. But sales plummeted in the fall of 2001, when production was halted. Several users complained that the curriculum was too complex and ill-suited for teachers who did not have hours to spend on preparing lessons.
