Howard to be honored at
Sterling College Commencement

Sterling, Kan. – Robert L. Howard of Wichita, Kan., chairman of the Presbyterian Lay Committee, will be honored during the 110th Sterling College Commencement Ceremonies with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

Howard is retired senior partner and chairman of Foulston & Siefkin L.L.P. He has previously served on the firm’s Executive Committee and counseled the firm’s Business Litigation and Appellate Sections.

Howard’s litigation experience spans four decades. He has successfully tried numerous cases, many as lead trial counsel in complex business litigation. He was the 1990 recipient of the University of Kansas School of Law Distinguished Alumnus Citation. He is an elected fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, and Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundations.

Howard received his B.A. from Emporia State University in 1952, a diploma from the U.S. Navy Post-graduate school in 1953 and his L.L.B. from the University of Kansas in 1959.

At the University of Kansas School of Law, he achieved Order of the Coif and was associate editor of the Kansas Law Review.

Howard has been an involved leader in the Presbyterian Church for many years, serving as an elder for more than 40 years in local churches. He has been a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Wichita, for 39 years.

Howard has been a director of the Presbyterian Lay Committee for 15 years and has been chairman since 1998.

Howard has also served on the Young Life, World Impact and Sterling College Boards and currently serves on the Salvation Army Board.

“Bob Howard is a pillar of service to his profession and his church,” said Sterling College President Ed Johnson. “He is an outstanding servant-leader role model for our graduates.”
