“It’s all about you, isn’t it?” asks a popular bumper sticker, reinforcing the theme of the Beatles’ song, “All you need is love.”

book
In Essential Christianity, James D. Berkley agrees that everyone is seeking love. His point, however, is that God already is seeking us in love and, as Christians, we thankfully should embrace that love.

Using eight paired statements about what God provides for human needs, Berkley uses the gospel easily and logically to show non-Christians the “essentials” of what it means to become a Christian while, for the Christian, the book can be a starting point for studying how to more deeply evangelize the good news of the Word.

The book faithfully puts forward the case for Jesus Christ, using contemporary and visual language to make more complex theology user-friendly, while always stressing the message of the gospel and the uniqueness of salvation through Jesus.

Berkley’s recurring theme is a reminder that the Word of God is an uplifting message of love, meaning and ultimate salvation – not about you, but about your life with him.
