Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.
We acknowledge that you hold the whole world in your hands and that you never slumber nor do you sleep.
O God, be attentive this hour to the cries of those who are living in places in the world where men make war and children on both sides live in fear. May they know the surpassing comfort of your presence even in the midst of the valley which falls under the shadow of death; may they fear no evil knowing that Thou art with them.
O God, stretch out your mighty hand to protect and defend the innocent. Stretch out your hand to restore peace. Stretch out your hand to demonstrate your presence, your power and your grace.
We pray this day for the peace of Jerusalem – and for the peace of Israel – and for the peace of the neighborhood in which your people dwell: for Egypt and Jordan and Syria and Lebanon. For Turkey and Iraq and Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Libya and Yemen. O God, there is so much unrest, so much chaos, so much war. Send, O Lord, a fresh wind of your Spirit that people may know Jesus, that they may know peace.
This we pray in the name of the One who alone is the Prince of real peace, Jesus our Lord. Amen.
