After a three year process, Maple Valley Presbyterian Church was dismissed from Seattle Presbytery to ECO at the 9/17/2013 meeting of Presbytery. I was disappointed that our church was not listed along with another church dismissed at the same meeting. While this slight is of little significance in our journey, as a ruling elder, I was looking forward to seeing our church in print-simply another acknowledgement of progress I believe is positive for our ministry. I did find our church listed in the spread sheet available at your website, so I know the information was available to print. Is there an explanation?
Please consider publishing the documents, especially the list of churches that have left, as a PDF. Those of us who don’t have Microsoft Office products aren’t able to open a .xls file. Thanks so much. Appreciate the updates and the work you’ve put into the site.
One of the downloads above compares the PCUSA/ECO/EPC. One of the first items in the list states: the PCUSA has no listing of the “Essential Tenets”. This is hogwash. Chapter 1 of the Book of Order, “The Mission of the Church” is a detailed listing of PCUSA tenets. A very good summary is in F-1.0304 as follows:
The great ends of the Church are:
the proclamation of the gospel for the salvation of humankind;
the shelter, nurture, and spiritual fellowship of the children of God;
the maintenance of divine worship;
the preservation of the truth;
the promotion of social righteousness;
the exhibition of the Kingdom of Heaven to the world.
The fact that many conservative presbyterians have a problem with “the promotion of social righteousness” proves the existence of PCUSA “essential tenets.” They just don’t like them.
