What is The Presbyterian Lay Committee?
We want you to know us and are pleased to offer full disclosure. You will find descriptions of our mission, objectives and history on our web site, www.layman.org. Included are the names and vitae of our directors.
We are an independent organization of Presbyterian lay people who have been speaking on behalf of Biblical truth within the PC(USA) since 1965. During our founding year, after having been denied access to the denomination’s official publications we reached people in the pews by purchasing advertising space in several national newspapers. Responses resulted in a huge mailing list that dwarfs those of all other Presbyterian publications.
The PC(USA) has declined dramatically, trending consistently away from Christ alone as the Way to salvation and toward universalism, away from the Word of God written and toward pluralism, and away from the historical moral standards of the Church and toward cultural relativism.
This chain of events threatens the life of our denomination, and we are moved once again to reach out to Presbyterians in the pews via the national press.
Even though the Bible and the historic Reformed Confessions continue to uphold Christian marriage as the only appropriate context for sexual expression, the PC(USA) has condoned extra-marital and same-gender sexual activities, most recently by deleting its constitutional requirement that ordained leaders confine their sexual behavior to the covenant of Christian marriage (The ratifying vote occurred on May 10, 2011).
What you can do
- Pray that the Lord will intervene in this apostasy.
- Stay informed via www.layman.org.and write or call us for resources.
- Stand with thousands of your Presbyterian brothers and sisters by signing “I Choose This Day!” and hand delivering it to members of your church Session (local church governing body).
- Visit members of your church Session. Pray with and for them that the Lord will give them discernment and courage to lead your congregation during this challenging time.
- Remember: The Reformation was sparked by a lonely monk who hammered his petition on the church door. Today, you have communication tools that exceed Martin Luther’s wildest imagination, so think what the Holy Spirit can do through your faithful witness!
